The materials and techniques used in chimney work directly affect safety and longevity. We don’t use consumer-grade products from hardware stores — we use professional-grade materials designed specifically for chimney applications:
- Mortar: We formulate custom mortar mixes matched to your chimney’s construction era. Historic brick requires softer lime-based mortar; modern brick uses Type N or Type S. Using the wrong mortar damages brick — a mistake we see frequently from inexperienced contractors.
- Liners: UL Listed stainless steel and cast-in-place liner systems rated to 2,100°F with lifetime transferable warranties. We don’t use lightweight, unrated liners.
- Crowns: Concrete crown pours with proper bond-break, drip edge, and slope — not the troweled-on mortar caps that crack and fail within years.
- Waterproofing: Vapor-permeable chimney sealants that repel water while allowing moisture to escape — not paint or sealer that traps moisture inside the brick.
- Flashing: Step-and-counter flashing with proper reglets and sealant — not the single-layer surface-mounted flashing that fails at the first storm.
